Common Print Defects from Defective IBT Transfer Belt: Color Mis‑alignment and Streaking

Many color copier and laser printer users encounter color shift, mis‑registration and regular streaks on printed outputs, which are frequently related to the Intermediate Belt Transfer (IBT / ITB) assembly.

The IBT transfer belt is a core part for superimposing CMYK toner images. When it is worn, scratched, contaminated or aged, it fails to transfer toner accurately onto paper, bringing two typical print failures.

Color mis‑registration (color dislocation)
It is mainly caused by belt stretching, aging driving gear and dirty position sensor. The four‑color toner layers cannot be precisely overlapped. Printed texts and patterns show color shadow, offset and blurry edges, even after printer calibration.

Vertical / periodic streaks on prints
Scratches on the IBT belt surface, damaged cleaning blade, accumulated waste toner and belt surface abrasion will generate fixed‑position repeating streaks on every printed page. If streaks appear at the same interval, it indicates physical damage to the transfer belt film .

Before replacing IBT parts, customers should check cleaning blade, sensor and drive gear first. Simple cleaning or calibration cannot fix physical scratch and stretch damage of the belt film, in which case full IBT transfer belt replacement is required to restore normal print quality.
